Ecolution Artistry 9.5" Pan Review

Many people cook with "non-stick cookware" unknowing of the dangers that non-stick coating can cause. Some non-stick cookware is made with a known carcinogen called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which starts emitting toxic fumes that you inhale every time you cook with a non-stick pot or pan (which is every single use, since you cook over heat). At high temperatures, the coating of non-stick cookware will also break down into a chemical warfare agent known as PFIB (dictionary definition: Perfluoroisobutene, also known as 1,1,3,3,3-pentafluoro-2-prop-1-ene, is a fluorocarbon alkene. It is a hydrophobic reactive gas with boiling point at 7 °C. It is a strong electrophile. PFIB is about 10 times as toxic as phosgene"), Phosgene gained popularity in WWI when it was first used. It's a noxious, colorless gas more commonly referred to as "nerve gas."

My review team and I were lucky enough to be able to receive Ecolution Artistry 9.5" frying pans for review.  Their packaging is printed on 70% recycled materials!

Ecolution pans are non-stick pans, but they are a safer choice for people who love to cook with a non-stick surface. We already know that typical non-stick surfaces use toxic chemicals, so what sets Ecoluation apart from the rest? Well, they are made using a PFOA-Free coating, called Hydrolon (a water based application system, marketed exclusively by Ecolution).

So, what exactly is Hydrolon? It's a multi-layer non-stick, similar to the traditional type non-stick, except that all coats use water in place of PFOA to apply the non-stick.  The reason behind that process is because "when the non-stick is applied to the metal, the application solvent that evaporates is simply water, greatly reducing emissions. This non-toxic coating is a safer solution for healthy and eco-friendly cooking. (explanation taken from website)"

I love the heavy duty bottom on this pan. The design, I learned, is more than just pleasing to look at, it helps evenly distribute heat when cooking.

This pan cooks perfectly, and because of it's nice coating I haven't had to add a bunch of fat to cook in, either. The handle is a soft silicone but grips very nicely. This means that it won't hold the heat of the pan, and it will always be cool to touch. Because of my mother's arthritis, she can't make a small grip anymore - this handle is bigger than most of her pans and she can safely grip it tightly. Due to the handle being silicone, this pan is only to be used on the stove top. You cannot transfer it to the oven when cooking.

It's also dishwasher safe (woohoo!)  and the special construction of the pan offers double thick rims for superior performance and maximum durability.

Ecolution makes more than just frying pans, they have 4 entire lines of cookware for your kitchen. Visit the link to their website to see for yourself.

There are a lot of reasons to rid your home of toxins, but your family's overall health should be number 1. Our environment should be a close second.  PFOA takes a very long time in the environment to breakdown. Whenever possible, educate yourself and make informed decisions.

  1. This is the reason I hate non-stick pans. I love that these are an alternative. I'm always shopping around for good pans, so I'll be taking a look at these.
